occupational medicine; eczema
Work-related eczema has been the most commonly recognized group of occupational diseases in Denmark in recent years. Women are affected more often than men, both groups with onset at an early age. Data concerning the prognosis for work-related eczema is sparse, in particular knowledge about how the effect of change of occupation influences prognosis is missing.
We have today solid evidence that preventive measures with focus on skin protection and change of exposures have a positive effect on the prognosis, and we have guidelines for prevention, diagnostics and treatment of work-related eczema. Whether these measures are implemented in work-places and in the health care system is unknown.
The aim of my ph.d study is
- To evaluate the prognosis of hand eczema as a result of change of occupation.
- investigate if the relevant preventive and diagnostic measures, as well as and treatment are offered to patients with work related eczema.
The present study is an observational follow-up study, of a cohort of patients with recognized occupational eczema in 2010 and 2011. Data will be obtained from the Danish National Board of Industrial Injuries. The cohort from 2010 is already established and basic data published.
The follow-up period is 4-5 years. Follow-up data is obtained by a questionnaire sent to all participants, including a guide to self-evaluation of severity of eczema and quality of life.
