Aktuel forskning

Adolescents diagnosed with type 1 diabetes are a particularly vulnerable patient group. They are at high risk of developing poorly regulated diabetes, low health related quality of life, psychiatric disorders as well as acute and chronic diabetes related complications. Currently, only 30 % of Danish adolescents achieve the recommend goal for the diabetes treatment - HbA1c at 55 mmol/mol or lower. Physiological and psychological changes, in the transition phase, might impact the outcome. With our current project, we aim to develop a simple standardized screening tool of psychosocial challenges with importance to diabetes regulation and health related quality of life. The screening tool will make it possible to screen all adolescents with type 1 diabetes on a regular basis, regardless of age, status of disease and social background. Early identification of youth at risk, can secure early prevention, before diabetes burn-out. The screening will also be used in the national screening register as patient-related outcome measure (PROM). The ultimate goal of the project is to secure all adolescents with type 1 diabetes in Denmark a good and healthy life, without increased morbidity and mortality.
