Research Experience: From 2008-2011 Stig Molsted was a PhD fellow on Copenhagen University. His PhD work were based on effects of high-load resistance training with and without oral protein supplementation on muscle morphology, glucose tolerance, and muscle strength in patients undergoing dialysis.

 

In a post doctorial position from 2012-2015 Stig Molsted continued his work with different effects of resistance training in patients undergoing dialysis. The investigations included effects on testosterone, neuromuscular function, and satellite cells in the skeletal muscles.

 

During the same period Stig Molsted has conducted other research projects including studies of physical activity in patients with diabetes, musculoskeletal pain in patients with type 2 diabetes, patient education to patients with type 2 diabetes, and sexual dysfunction in female patients with chronic kidney disease

 

Research Interest: Effects of physical activity and different modalities of physical exercise on a list of outcomes in patients with chronic diseases including diabetes and chronic kidney disease.

 

Ongoing Research: 1) Musculoskeletal pain, physical activity, and mortality in patient with chronic kidney diseases, 2) Effects of exercise training on musculoskeletal pain in patients with type 2 diabetes, 3) Trends in physical activity in Danish patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases from 2000-2010

 

Communication: Stig Molsted has published 22 peer reviewed papers (15 as first author, two as last author) and three book chapters. The results of his research have been presented as a number posters and oral presentations on international meetings.
