In 1982 medical doctor and in 1992 specialist in anaesthesia. Since 2012 professor in palliative medicine, Department of Oncology, Rigshospitalet, University of Copenhagen. Former member of the editorial advisory boards of J Pain Symptom Manage and Scand J Pain, and currently member of the editorial advisory board of Palliat Med. Former vice-president of European Association for Palliative Care (EAPC) and currently member International Scientific Expert Panel (ISEP) of Cicely Saunders.
Author and co-author of > 200 peer-reviewed articles and books/book chapters in palliative medicine and pain management.

Aktuel forskning
The Palliative Research Group, led by Professor Per Sjøgren, has recently been a part of a large multicenter national randomized project to investigate the effect of early intervention for palliative patients with cancer (The DanPact study) and is now the driving force of a large randomized trial on a fast-track transition from oncological treatment to specialized palliative care at home for patients with cancer (The DOMUS study). The group has also initiated a newly funded project to investigate palliative care for patients with advanced cancer in Greenland. The project will be the basis for future organization of palliative care in Greenland.
