Aktuel forskning

I hold a shared position between SDCC (1/2) and Biomedical Sciences, University of Copenhagen (KU) (1/2).

My research covers basic and translation research in the field of type 1 diabetes (SDCC) and type 2 diabetes (KU) pathology. My overall goal is to understand the molecular mechanisms and pathways leading to beta cell dysfunction and destruction common for both type of diabetes.

I use beta cell lines, rodent and human islets in my research supplemented with relevant animal models. Further, we use state of the art cellular and molecular techniques to answer our research questions.

Beta cell genetics of type 1 diabetes

At SDCC my focus is to investigate candidate type 1 diabetes risk genes by evaluating loss/gain of function in pancreatic beta cells in vitro and in vivo.

Mechanisms of action of pro-inflammatory cytokines and metabolites causing islet cell failure and dedifferentation in diabetes and how this can be prevented with particular focus at epigenetic modifications. Most of this research is grounded at KU.
