In the latest assessment of my academic qualifications carried out summer 2011 after my  application for a position as Research Professor of Biological Psychiatry at the Department of Neurology, Psychiatry and Sensory Sciences at the  University of Copenhagen it was concluded that I was “definitely qualified”.

Professional experiences

Clinical employment:

Postgraduate training in internal medicine, surgery, neurology and neurosurgery at university hospitals in Copenhagen (Glostrup and Gentofte). Psychiatric training at the University Hospitals Bispebjerg Hospital and Rigshospitalet. Employed Senior Consultant at Sct. Hans Hospital 2001.

From 2002 I have been Employed Senior Consultant at Psychiatric Center Copenhagen, Dept O Rigshospitalet. Apart from the teaching responsibilities mentioned below I have headed a 25-bed open ward with a shielded 6-bed unit. At the same time I have been in charge of ECT function at the clinic. Also I have been in charge of the neuropsychiatric function at the clinic including the psychiatric assessment of patients included in the national program for epilepsy surgery at the hospital (Rigshospitalet).

Teaching activities and qualifications

In 1994 I took the 50-hour course in medical pedagogy for teachers at The Faculty of Health, University of Copenhagen.

Pregraduate teaching

I gave lessons in neurobiology at the cand scient hum University of Copenhagen (1990 og 1991). As a clinical lecturer I gave clinical lectures in1992-2000.

As Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Faculty of Health University of Copenhagen from 2006 I have participated in the creation of a new master education cand. scient. san. In this education I have taught PBL classes and I give the introductory 2-hour lecture in psychiatry. Also I have tutored a final thesis in cand. scient. san. In medical school (cand. med.) I give the introductory lesson in the history of psychiatry and have tutored many Osvald I and II theses in the subjects of stress and electroconvulsive therapy.

Postgraduate teaching

From 2003-2008 I was in charge of the specialist training (uddannelsesansvarlig overlæge) at the Psychiatric Clinic Rigshospitalet. From 2001-2004 I gave lessons under the heading: “Phenomenology and Neuroscience” at the courses in psychopathology at the specialist training in psychiatry (H-kursus). In 2006 I gave the lesson “Epilepsy in Psychiatry” at the course in epilepsy at the specialist training in neurology (H-kursus). Since 2006 I have given the ECT lessons at the courses in biological psychiatry at the specialist training in psychiatry (H-kursus). Also as head of the ECT commission under The Danish Psychiatric Association I have planned and taught at the yearly national one-day ECT courses. As a trained supervisor in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) I give since 2010 - as part of the obligatory training in psychotherapy in the specialist training in psychiatry - a one-day theoretical course in CBT with focus on affective disorders and anxiety disorders.

Psychotherapeutic activities

I am a trained specialist and supervisor (2005) in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and have supervised therapy individually and groups since 2005. I have published 3 papers on the efficacy of CBT on depression (45,49,50). I was in charge of the introduction and implementation of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) at psychiatric center Rigshospitalet (2005).

Publications

I am Author or co-author of 78 peer reviewed publications (>2000 citations Science Citation Index) of which 56 are published in scientific journals, 16 as book chapters in scientific books,  1 is my doctoral thesis (40), 2 are reports on clinical issues (54,69) and 2 are psychiatric textbook chapters (61,62). All except 10 (in danish 48,49,50,59,58,61,62,66,72,73) are in english. 1 publication (60) is not peer reviewed. It is a chapter in a popular science book.
