Primære forskningsområder

My early research work focused on the epidemiology of pain medication overuse in the treatment of headache. This has since broadened into examining headache and other pain complaints among patients in treatment for psychiatric illness.

I currently work at the Competence Center for Transcultural Psychiatry (CTP) in Mental Health Center Ballerup, which is a specialized center for the treatment of traumatized refugees who have symptoms of anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. This group of patients very often have comorbid chronic pain.

I am also affiliated with the Greenland Center for Health Research (GCHR). Through close collaboration between CTP and the psychiatry department of Queen Ingrid’s Hospital in Nuuk, we are embarking on the SPRING (Suicide Prevention in Greenland) project. Of particular interest to me is the concept of psychological pain (hurt, anguish, or misery) associated with thoughts of suicide, and how this is expressed across cultures.
