Expertise
I'm a MD doing clinical and experimental research primarily within the field of non alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and obesity.
Primære forskningsområder
NAFLD; NASH; Liver fibrosis; Liver cirrhosis; Obesity; low grade systemic inflammation; metabolism; gut microbiota; Adipose tissue inflammation; transcriptomics
Aktuel forskning
I investigate the association between gut microbiota composition and severity of biopsyproven NAFLD in 70 severely obese individuals undergoing bariatric surgery at Hvidovre Hospital. Follow-up liver biopsies are performed 1 year postoperatively in those with NASH and/or liver fibrosis. Furthermore I investigate other potential patophysiological drivers for development of the progressive NAFLD subtypes; non alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and NASH fibrosis.
