Primære forskningsområder

My research draws on both epidemiological and intervention studies. In either case, I strive to elaborate on the role of free-living physical activity and prevention of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The last several decades have produced a substantial research indicating the health benefits of physical activity, including reduced risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Nevertheless, the prevalence of physical activity in Denmark and similar westernized populations continues to be suboptimal for most as work and daily activities become more and more sedentary. With the advantage of well-characterized populations at risk of developing type 2 diabetes and the use of new physical activity measurement technologies, my aims are to:

1) apply novel statistical methods (Latent Class Models and Decision/Survival Tree Analysis) for identification of physical activity patterns and high risk groups and 2) determine how these are associated to type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

The ultimate goal is to generate more knowledge about physical activity patterns in order to refine and target future physical activity prevention efforts, in terms of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease risk reduction.
