Aims and objectives
The aim of the lung transplantation project is to investigate if there is a possibility to use so-called DCD (donation after circulatory death) donor lungs for clinical transplantation. We are working on a new concept without heparin and using ventilation of the donor lungs as apreservation method. This has never been done before.
Focus areas
To use lungs from DCD donors and evaluate them in the EVLP(ex-vivo lung perfusion system and investigate if it is possible to use them for clinical transplantation.
Disciplines, methods and tools
We will use a new algorithm that seems to work fine on pigs. We will use the EVLP system to evaluate the function of the donated lungs.
