Organisationsprofil

Aims and objectives

The overall aim of the research is to provide a scientific basis for a precise treatment of psychiatric patients.

PCG hosts Center for Neuropsychiatric Schizophrenia Research, CNSR and Center for Neuropsychiatric Depression Research, CNDR. In addition, CNSR houses a Lundbeck Foundation Centre of Excellence, Center for Clinical Intervention and Neuropsychiatric Schizophrenia Research, CINS

Focus areas

CNSR/CINS are headed by Professor Birte Glenthøj. The group has become internationally recognised for longitudinal, multimodal studies on initially antipsychotic-naïve first-episode patients with schizophrenia. The unique data have contributed significantly to the understanding of the neurobiology of schizophrenia and supported distinct subgroups of patients with differentiated response to treatment. Gene-environment contributions are studied in twins and stratification across diagnostic boundaries in patients with ADHD, autism and PTSD. The aim is to identify new biologically valid subgroups of psychiatric patients and contribute to a more precise treatment.

CNDR is headed by Professor Poul Videbech. It was founded in 2015. The first studies have been initiated I 2016. The focus is on the pathophysiology of affective disorders and an optimisation and further development of treatments for depression including ECT. Additional focus areas are on the boundaries between psychiatric and somatic disorders, on pregnant women with depression and on communication of research.

Disciplines, methods and tools

The studies in CNSR, CINS and CNDR comprise a large number of methods including diagnostic interviews, in vivo pharmacology, electrophysiology, cognition, and in close collaboration with other brain research groups also structural, functional and neurochemical brain imaging. We have advanced electrophysiological and cognitive laboratories at PCG.
