The aim is "optimal pathology answers for the benefit of the patient"
The optimal pathology answer is of high diagnostic quality, timely, and contributes to the patients overall treatment
The optimal pathology answer ensures the future of patient care and technological development in addition with research of high national and international level.
Research in basic pathological areas including molecular characterization with focus on precision medicine.
Several molecular pathological studies are routinely performed on tissue and/or cell material from patients with colorectal cancer, breast cancer, melanoma, gynaecological cancer, haematological cancer and other malignant diseases - area where molecular analysis along with the classic pathology is a prerequisite for choosing the right treatment. In addition research in benign disorders is also conducted.
Furthermore the department focus on bio banking and includes the secretary for "Patobank" and "Regionernes Bio - og GenomBank (RBGB)".
The disciplines are traditional pathological methods such as immunohistochemistry and other molecular based analyses such PCR and hybridization techniques which include, as examples, various mutation analysis, methylation analysis, miRNA analysis, several different sequencing techniques, FISH, ISH and CISH.
Next generation sequencing (NGS) has been implemented as routine and cover both targeted sequencing as well as exome sequencing. Presently, implementation of digitalisation for reading/storing FISH and immunohistochemical data are on-going.
