Aims and objectives

Elucidation of the adipose tissue pathophysiology in obesity, diabetes mellitus and lymphedema conditions.

Measurements of arterial stiffness and ambulatory blood pressure.

Dopamine re-uptake transporters in the human brain in movement disorders and dementia.

Improved cardiac and bone isotope scans by new high-resolution PET/CT.

Focus areas

The metabolic interplay between adipose tissue, liver, intestinal tissues and skeletal muscle in the development of low grade inflammation in obesity. The effects of physical activity and diet on the integrated lipid metabolism.

The interplay between the immune system (lymphatic system) and adipose tissue in lymph edema and obesity.

Change in arterial stiffness in various patient populations (diabetes, hypertension).

Quantification and improved diagnostic options in nuclear medicine.
