Aims and objectives

Department of Vascular Surgery at Rigshospitalet, is among the largest vascular clinics in Europe. Our experience and volume of treatment is considerable, providing a valuable base for teaching, research and development.?

Focus areas

Detection, monitoring and preventing atherosclerotic disease

Quantification and characterization of arteriosclerosis in the carotid arteries with 2D and 3D ultrasound techniques.

Determination of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) size and growth rate with 2D and 3D ultrasound techniques and biomarker analysis

Surveillance programme for EVAR patients with advanced ultrasound techniques.

Exploration of opportunities of ultrasound contrast agents for diagnosis and functional imaging in carotid, aortic aneurysmal and lower limb disease

The effect of physical training and other risk reduction in patients with intermittent claudication

Monitoring of perfusion in the lower limbs with micro-light guide spectrophotometry

Technical skills training in open- and endovascular surgery

Disciplines, methods and tools

The department has for more than 30 years continuously worked with vascular ultrasound diagnosis, clinically as well as scientifically, and is today the largest center for diagnostic vascular ultrasound in Europe. The clinic is equipped with "state of the art" + ultrasound equipment in addition to new instruments under development and specially trained nurses.

During the last ten years eight thesis and doctoral dissertations and more than 275 scientific publications have emanated from the department.

The clinical research professor is associated to the Copenhagen Academy of Medical Education and Simulation (CAMES), a NASCE accredited centre. During the last ten years 14 Ph.D.. and more than 300 scientific publications have emanated from CAMES.?
